Abstract

During the Vietnam War, American pilots were shot down by the North Vietnamese and became prisoners of war. This is the story of how one prisoner of war tried to escape and the futility that Americans felt in trying to rescue him. This article also illustrates the role that signals intelligence can play in search-and-rescue missions.
