Abstract

An attempt is made to unravel the separate contributions from the spin-dependent deuteron and proton waves in deuteron stripping reactions as they are revealed by sets of polarization measurements. These polarization measurements involve in one case asymmetries owing to vector-polarized deuterons and, in the other case, proton polarizations associated with unpolarized deuterons. For a given l-value of the transferred neutron, the results differ according to the two j-values. Examination is restricted to small angles in the neighbourhood of the stripping peak where the j-dependence is most striking. Numerical calculations are made for the 40Ca (d, p) and 90Zr (d, p) reactions covering a range of deuteron energies from 5 to 15 MeV for s, p and d-wave neutron transfers.
