Abstract

Fig. 1. The image displays 33 whole body volume renderings in a 3D skeletal view. The postmortem scan of a gorilla, “invisible gorilla”, is hidden in the last row, 3rd skeletal whole body volume rendering from the right. Gorillas are the largest living primates and other than humans who have biped gait, gorillas do knuckle walking (quadrupedal gait). Therefore the pelvis in gorillas is relatively narrow compared to humans and long arms, bent knees and flat, wide feet support shuffling on all fours. In addition, the face is larger than the cranium, which is vice versa in humans and the skull hangs forward and is not supported on the top of the vertebral column. Gorillas are also primarily vegetarians.
