Abstract

in this paper, we investigate the dependence of the optical fiber dispersion on such factors of the change in the refractive index profile: the profile height, the core radius, the intermediate shell depth, and its width. To this end, mathematical models of the refractive index profiles of optical fibers have been developed. Step-wise approximation was used for the mathematical description of the profiles. An algorithm for studying the effect of a welded connection of a dispersion-modified optical fiber on the degree of variance change is proposed. The obtained results showed that the dispersion can increase significantly with a significant deviation of the refractive index profile from the initial form, which can lead to distortions of the transmitted signal.
