Abstract

For a family of parallel incoming light rays, we consider the problem of finding a reflecting curve Γ that has as its caustic a given curve γ. First, a geometric string construction for Γ is presented. Then the differential equation of the curve Γ is derived and its analytical properties are discussed. We conclude with two concrete examples, and a remark about the cusps of a caustic.
