Abstract
There are considered controversial aspects of dating the appearance of photograph and merits of V. Stasov in establishing the Collection of photo-documents of the Russian National library. The article is dedicated to the anniversaries celebrated in 2014: the 190th birth anniversary of V. Stasov and the 175th anniversary of the invention of daguerreotype.
