Abstract

Most of the patients receiving sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services in the United States are cared for by teams of providers who complement the skills of one another. This includes front office staff, clinical support staff and the administrative team, as well as clinicians. The majority of the providers of SRH clinical care are not physicians; they are nurses, advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), nurse-midwives, physician assistants (PAs) and pharmacists. There is no universal access to all of these potential providers, however, limiting efforts to reduce unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections and to ensure sexual and reproductive health.
