Abstract
Note is made of the variety in the usual definitions of Protestantism from the outset down to the present time. During the past quarter-century the partisan interest, so prominent originally in the rival interpretations of the Reformation by Catholics and Protestants, has often been perpetuated. Other recent studies have been motivated by a more truly scientific spirit that aims to interpret the rise of Protestantism as a part of a larger social evolution.
