Abstract

This book deals with the Internet and its applications in the radiological environment. Basic information about the WWW and its protocols are explained in principle and dedicated for readers with interest in Internet applications, but without professional IT background. Hard- and software terminology and applications complete the tools, which are necessary for the use of the Internet in radiology. PACS, teleradiology and voice recognition are discussed in detail with potential advantages and drawbacks. Thirty-nine figures give relevant explanations of hardware and software applications. With the book comes a CD-rom with numerous webpages of radiologic departments, vendors, portals and patient resources, with easy access by standard browsers. Appendix 1 and 2 include the ACR standards for digital imaging and teleradiology and a very useful and comprehensive glossary for abbreviations, which are used throughout the book.
