Abstract

THE International Congress for Nurses, which was held in Atlantic City during May, has created widespread interest in the international association of our profession. Therefore, it seems appropriate to present a few facts that every nurse should know about the ICN. The International Council of Nurses, proposed by Mrs. Bedford Fenwick in London, July I, 1899, is a federation of nurses' national associations. We nurses I representing various nations of the world, sincerely believing that the profession of nursing will be advanced by greater unity of thought, sympathy, and purpose, are united in a federation of national associations of nurses. The national associations are nonpolitical and nonsectarian in character and work together for the purpose of promoting the health of all nations, improving the nursing care of the sick, advancing the professional and economic welfare of nurses, and enhancing the honor of the nursing profession.
