Abstract

The Open Hearth Conference award was established in 1944 by the National Open Hearth and Basic Oxygen Steel Committee to encourage young men engaged in some phase of the manufacture of steel by the open hearth process. The award is made for the best paper on some phase of open hearth practice (including maintenance, design, operation, quality, or metallurgy)>written by an author or authors not more than 40 years of age.
