Abstract
1. For each of the steels investigated a relationship was found between the variation of the austenite lattice constant during the intermediate transformation and the carbon content of the original austenite before transformation of the γ-solid solution similar to that for a number of steels with approximately the same alloying. 2. Heats containing larger amounts of carbon in the original austenite have an elevated hardness in the intermediate transformation zone due to the more intensive formation of carbide.
