Abstract

Synchrotron photoelectron spectra (PES) of ethylene are obtained over a wide photon energy range (30 to 220 eV). A new correlation (satellite) peak is found at 21.4 eV binding energy. A preliminary multi-reference singles and doubles configuration interaction (MRSDCI) calcualtion, based on average natural orbitals (ANO), is reported to provide a tentative assignment for this new peak. The relative photoionization cross section of this peak shows a strong photon energy dependence and appears to be caused by dynamic correlations.
