Abstract

1. The interaction of molybdenum with titanium carbide in the composition range 1.2–90 mol.% TiC was studied by the x-ray diffraction and metallographic methods, and the melting points of these alloys were measured. 2. It was confirmed that the system Mo-TiC is quasi-binary, with the eutectic type of solidification. 3. The eutectic composition is 20 mol.% TiC, and the eutectic temperature is 2175±15°C. 4. The solubility of molybdenum in titanium carbide is 37 mol.% at the eutectic temperature and 25 mol.% at 2000°C. 5. The solubility of titanium carbide in molybdenum lies in the range 3.5–4.5 mol.% at the eutectic temperature and in the range 2–2.5 mol.% at 2000°C.
