Abstract

New methods of design, control, packaging, alignment, and service have made possible the integration of a TV tuner onto the main chassis printed-circuit board. Concurrent engineering of several disciplines addressed the many issues of an integrated tuner, making the project more of a system problem than an RF specific task. This system provides many advantages over modular tuners. The developments allowed the elimination of an entire tuner production facility. Although the chassis production line is complicated by the integrated tuner, line rates are maintained. Performance has benefited from electronic alignment in that there is less variation from channel to channel in both selectivity and in-band response. >
