Abstract

Abstract Amid explosive race, gender, and immigration issues, the public struggle between advocates of religious liberties and advocates for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) equality, campaigns for hiring more people with disabilities, and movements such as “Black Lives Matter” and “#MeToo,” it is increasingly challenging to build coalitions and advance inclusion toward the benefit of all. Our ability to shape the future will be determined by how we treat those with whom we most vehemently disagree. We need leaders, transformative change agents, and compassionate healers capable of building inclusive organizations and peaceful communities. Using Gestalt principles for radical respect, this article introduces a relational model for managing differences and explores how we can use ourselves as instruments for social change.
