Abstract
ABSTRACT This paper describes the project to install subsea emergency shutdown valves on the existing Texaco Tartan Platform oil and gas export pipelines located in the North Sea. A brief summary of operational experience of these emergency systems is included. As a result of the Piper Alpha disaster the Tartan oil and gas export pipelines were shutdown and decommissioned until reinstatement by Occidental of the subsea pipeline systems around the Piper location. Texaco decided to enhance the safety of Tartan Platform by installing subsea emergency shutdown valves on these pipelines during this shutdown period. These valve systems were successfully designed, procured and installed to meet the reinstatement schedule and by October 1990 will have been in service for over 18 months.
