Abstract

The instability of nuclei in the yrast region with large angular momenta towards emission of nucleons is considered. In an independent particle plus cranking model this instability is connected to the occupation of g 9 2 , h 11 2 and i 13 2 resonance states in the nucleus. Results and the dependence of the results on proton and neutron number and deformation of the nucleus are given and discussed. Finally, the experimental conditions are briefly considered.
