Abstract

Photoionization of Rydberg atoms is considered in the quasi-classical (WKB) approach. The total nonlinear strong-field ionization rate is found and investigated. The time of ionization, as a function of a growing field-strength amplitude, is shown to approach asymptotically the Kepler period tK. Interference stabilization of Rydberg atoms is confirmed to exist in the case of short pulses (shorter than the Kepler period).
