Abstract

Acute infections of Anaplasma marginale in splenectomized calves and adult cattle were inhibited by administering a micronized suspension of α-ethoxy-ethylglyoxal dithiosemicarbazone. Intravenous administration produced the best results. A comparison of treated principals with untreated infected controls showed that a single dose of 5 mg./kg. body-weight suppressed parasite development, lessened anaemia and increased the survival rate. Acute anaplasmosis did not develop in a yearling steer given a subcutaneous dose of 10 mg./kg. suspended in Freund’s incomplete adjuvant
