Abstract

The inhibiting effect of N-(furfuryl)- N′-phenyl thiourea (FPTU) on the corrosion of mild steel in 0.01 M HCl solution has been demonstrated using potentiodynamic polarization technique. The polarization data have shown that FPTU acts as an efficient anodic inhibitor for mild steel in acid solution. Adsorption of this compound on the mild steel surface was found to obey Temkin's adsorption isotherm. Good inhibition efficiency (> 93%) has been evidenced at 28 °C and 50 °C and inhibition is governed by chemisorption mechanism.
