Abstract

SummaryTwo experiments are reported involving the progenies from crosses between short-day and either everbearing or day-neutral genotypes. Assessments of susceptibility to powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca macularis) were made in the field using a subjective five-point scale. Both general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) were found to be significant in the inheritance of mildew resistance. The cv Tioga was identified as a useful source of resistance with good GCA and the cross ES657 × Brighton showed a high level of SCA.
