Abstract
The main objective of sustainable development is an improvement in quality of life of both present and future generations. On the base of that assumption the author of the paper presents the infrastructure development as the key element for the sustainable development of rural areas. The article describes the link between sustainability and quality of life, between level of infrastructure, role of local government and the realization of sustainable development goals.
