Abstract

The effect of adduct formation on the ring vibrations of cyclic thio-ethers shows that the mercury-sulphur bond is formed by equatorial donation of the sulphur lone-pair, and varies in strength in the order Cl > Br > I. The mercury is in tetrahedral coordination.
