Abstract

An infra-red method is described for the determination of total carbonate in marine sediments. The method is calibrated with samples of known composition and may be used to determine total carbonate to ca. ± 2% of the chemical values. It can also be used to give semi-quantitative estimates of Al 2O 3 and SiO 2.
