Abstract

The specific nature of library activity is analyzed in the context of new realities that underpin the development and storage of library resources. Arguments that justify the key role of libraries in information support of scientific research are presented. The structure of the library network that belongs to the Federal Agency of Scientific Organizations (FASO), which was formerly known as the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), is discussed. The case of the RAS Library for Natural Sciences (LNS RAS) is presented in order to discuss the activities of the network's core library as a traditional library, information center, research and development institute, and technical center.
