Abstract

A new procedure for estimation of defects in cladding metal and on the fusion line with pearlitic steel, which is intended for application to reactor pressure vessels, is suggested. This procedure is based on the use of the techniques of ultrasonic inspection with longitudinal and shear waves, and on defect modelling not in the form of a disk, but in the form of a hollow stripe of definite width. One can thus increase the information from ultrasonic testing of anticorrosive cladding. In conclusion, the influence of defects of various shapes on the low cycle fatigue resistance of composite joints (base metal + anticorrosive cladding) is shown.
