Abstract

Highly effective aerosol fire-extinguishing agent (HEAE) is a safe and practical alternative to Halon which developed from solid propellant technology. HEAE combusts and generates large amounts of chemical particles and inert gases, which are released into the fire scenario to extinguish the fire. HEAE burning rate has a great effect on its suppression capability. In this paper, the effects of preliminary temperature (T0), the density and the raw material granularity of HEAE agent on the burning rate were examined. The results shown, in general trend, the higher T0, the faster burning rate of HEAE would be. The burning rate of HEAE is going up with diminution of raw material granularity of HEAE. The burning rate of HEAE is going down with increasing of density of HEAE. In addition, the relationship between the combustion rate and the fire extinguishing time is also discussed in this study.
