Abstract
The spatial resolution of X-ray microanalysis of thin foils is determined by the initial diameter of the electron probe and by subsequent beam broadening in the specimen due to electron scattering. The influence of X-ray absorption on resolution is investigated and found to be negligible up to a critical thickness depending on the composition and tilt conditions of the specimen.
