Abstract

Silver hydrosol prepared by Voigt and Heumann's method was exposed to ultrasonic waves at a frequency of 1 megacycle per second and power of 225 watts per square centimeter. The original yellow color of the sol slowly disappeared leaving behind a colorless solution. It is concluded from the present investigation that a chemical reaction takes place when colloidal silver is exposed to ultrasonic waves. The particles of silver go into the solution state, forming silver ions; Ag → Ag + + ⊖. The change is of the first order.
