Abstract

Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is an effective and safe method for local treatment of tumors. However, some differences in effectiveness could be expected due to different treatment conditions. The aim of our study was to investigate the potential influence of tumor size on effectiveness of ECT. We performed search of two bibliographic databases and extracted six studies eligible for our research. Classical statistical analysis and meta-analysis were performed. The results show significantly lower effectiveness of ECT on tumors with maximal diameter larger than 3 cm in comparison to tumors with maximal diameter smaller than 3 cm. We proposed that standard operating procedures should be refined and probably supplemented with treatment planning for cases when ECT is applied on large tumors.
