Abstract

A method of assay of “cysteinyltyrosinasc” activity applicable to the rat thyroid has been devised and the variations of this and of proteinase activity studied following the administration of thjTotrophic hormone or methylthiouracil. It was found that, in the case of “cysteinyltyrosinase,” there was a significant increase in the total activity per thyroid gland, either as such or when related to unit body weight, but the concentration was significantly decreased. However, although the proteinase showed significant variations similar to those of “cysteinyltyrosinase” following administration of methylthiouracil, thyrotrophic hormone caused significant increases in total activity and in activity related to unit body weight and a trend towards higher values for concentration of proteinase.
