Abstract

The effect of laser beam focusing parameters on the bead shape in laser metal deposition technology (LMD) is under consideration. The cross-sections of beads formed at different distances between the focus position and the base surface at the plane of the maximum flow density of the gas-powder mixture is obtained. Changing the laser beam’s focusing parameters is shown to vary the shape of the bead and the depth in the LMD technology at constant values of power, scanning speed, and powder consumption.
