The problem was undertaken at the suggestion of Prof. J. W. Wilson, at the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, Massachusetts, 1928 and 1929, and at the Arnold Biological Laboratory, Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, 1928 and 1929.
