Abstract

The properties of the glass phase of fused refractories containing 28‒94 % ZrO2 are given. The influence of the glass phase composition on the main performance properties of refractories ― corrosion resistance and tendency to release defects is considered. It is shown that a decrease in the amount of glass phase in fused baddeleyite-corundum refractories with a simultaneous increase in the amount of ZrO2 leads to an increase in their corrosion resistance and complication of the annealing conditions of products. The properties of the glass phase, which determine the tendency of refractories to release defects, depend mainly on the SiO2 : Na2O, the purity of raw materials and the method of melting the charge. Oxidative melting with the treatment of the melt with an oxygen-gas mixture is a prerequisite for the formation of a refractory glass phase in refractories and the production of products with a low tendency to the release of defects.
