Abstract

Partitioning of salt between the microemulsion phase and the excess aqueous phase is studied for Winsor II type microemulsion systems. Double layer theory is used to explain the observed effect that salt is expelled from the interior of the water-rich regions in the microemulsion phase. The resulting increase of the salt concentration in the excess water phase strongly influences the phase behaviour of the microemulsion system.
