Abstract

The first five terms are analytically calculated for the Taylor expansion of symmetric and asymmetric top orientational correlation functions (OCFs) in the Keilson-Storer (KS) model. The three stages of the orientational relaxation (OR) are established: (a) the free rotor stage, (b) the stage which is governed by the angular momentum relaxation frequency, and (c) the stage which is determined by the collision strength. It is suggested that this last stage determines not only the rate of the short time decay of OCFs, but also their long time properties. The time development of logarithmic OCFs is also studied.
