Abstract

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug known for its remarkable therapeutic effects. It can be available in different forms among which are coated and sugar-coated tablets. The objective of this study was to compare the dissolution profile between these two forms. The study was conducted with 5 ibuprofen drugs: 3 generics and one reference drug based on coated tablets, and one drug containing the coated tablets. The parameters used to evaluate and compare the dissolution profiles were the similarity (f2) and difference (f1) factors. The results obtained showed similar dissolution profiles for the two types of coating, with a more significant release for the sugar-coated tabletsduring the first 30 minutes.Dissolution studies are important studies to establish equivalence between generic and brand name drugs, and also to predict the release of the AP.
