Abstract

Based on the intensity moments for a broadband light beam and the generalized Collins formula for an optical system with a hard-edged aperture, the beam propagation factor and the kurtosis parameter for a broadband Gaussian beam modulated by a hard-edged aperture are analyzed numerically. The effect of the bandwidth on both the beam propagation factor and kurtosis parameter for a broadband Gaussian beam modulated by a hard-edged aperture has been analyzed. Results show that both the beam propagation factor and kurtosis parameter for a broadband Gaussian beam modulated by a hard-edged aperture increase with the increasing of the bandwidth. Obtained results provide a theoretical basis for the application of broadband laser beams in many fields.
