The Influence of Surface Conditions on the Open Circuit Voltage of Silicon Solar Cells

Abstract

Different p nn back-surface-field solar cells have been made. The only variable parameter is the surface condition on the front (p+ )side. The influence of the different surface conditions on the dark saturation current density, shows that in these cells, the saturation current density due to injection of minority carriers into the emitter is important and that the emitter junction is transparent for minority carriers.
