Abstract
Constrictive capsular fibrosis is the most common complication following silicone gel implants. In experiments in animals, the influence of superoxide dismutase on experimentally produced capsular tissue was investigated. Superoxide dismutase reduces the thickness of the connective tissue by approximately 50%. A relaxation of the connective tissue was also regularly observed. The superoxide dismutase is established as a drug. As it is very tolerable and has a low rate of side effects, its application in the treatment of fresh constrictive capsular fibrosis in humans is conceivable.
