Abstract

States in the U.S.A. with stricter handgun control laws appeared to have lower suicide rates overall and lower suicide rates by firearms in particular. No preventive effect from strict handgun control laws was found for homicide. Restrictions on the buying and the selling of handguns appeared to be more important than restrictions on the carrying of handguns.
