Abstract

The spectroscopic properties of SrAl 2O 4:Eu 2+ phosphors with a series of initiating combustion temperature and urea concentration are investigated. The SrAl 2O 4:Eu 2+ nano-particle phosphor was obtained in 3–5 min by combustion method with spectroscopic properties comparable to those obtained by much longer firing time at high temperature. The sample at initiating combustion temperature of 600 °C exhibits an intensity emission peak at 515 nm in which the SrAl 2O 4:Eu 2+ exists as a single-phase monoclinic structure. The excitation spectra consist of 254- and 339-nm broad peaks. The experimental results show that the optimum ratio of urea is 1.5 times higher than theoretical quantities and the SrAl 2O 4:Eu 2+ phosphor with good emission intensity can be obtained. The crystallite of this material is about 40–50 nm and the surface/mass ratio is 164.65 m 2/g.
