Abstract

AbstractFor the gasification and combustion of coal and biomass as well as the utilization of waste, the pressurized fluidized bed is one of the promising technologies. Due to the rigorous mixing between gas and solid, the gasification property enhanced in a pressurized fluidized bed (PFB). To acquire more detailed information about the flow behavior of the gas–solid experiment has been carried out in a PFB with an internal diameter of 100 mm and the length of the riser is 3 m. The present paper deals with the hydrodynamic study of sugarcane bagasse having a mean diameter of particle dp = 400 µm and particle density Pp = 210 kg/m3. The experiment has been carried out, at four different inventory of sugarcane bagasse 500 g, 750 g, 1000 g, and 1250 g and each inventory at four different working pressure 1, 2, 3, and 4 bar. The effect of the operating condition has been analyzed for voidage profile, suspension density, and drop of pressure in the riser. The result shows the S-shaped voidage profile of the bed because of the diffusion of a particle within the axial direction. With an enhancement in operating pressure, bed voidage decreases at the lower part of the riser while it increases at the upper part of the riser. It also can be observed that the bed voidage along the peak of riser decreases with a rise in solid inventory.KeywordsPressurized fluidized bed (PFB)Sugarcane bagasseInventoryHydrodynamics
