Abstract

Porous NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) is a novel biomedical candidate used for surgical implant application. Corrosion characteristics of porous NiTi SMAs with different porosity prepared from combustion synthesis were investigated in this paper by potentiodynamic polarization measurements in physiological and Hank's solutions at 37 °C, respectively, while solid NiTi SMA was chosen as a reference. The result indicated that the corrosion resistance of porous NiTi SMA decreased with the increasing porosity. Porous NiTi SMA was less corrosion resistant than the solid one.
