Abstract

AbstractThe thermal bleaching of F centres in the temperature range between 106 and 185 °C is found to occur in plastically deformed KCl crystals as well as in non‐deformed ones. In both cases the activation energy of the process is found to be equal to 1.30 ± 0.02 eV per F centre. The bleaching mechanism is considered to arise from the diffusion of anion vacancies. The decrease of the bleaching rate in deformed material is tentatively explained by the increase of the mean “micrograin” diameter.
