Abstract

THE study of unidentified growth factors for poultry has decreased somewhat in recent years, although the results in this area have been quite variable. McGinnis and Carver (1947) reported a growth response from fish meal and an alcohol soluble liver fraction which did not appear to be dependent upon the presence of corn and/or soybean meal in the diet. Hill (1948) found that at least two unidentified factors were involved in the response which they obtained with dried whey, soybean meal, fish meal and fish solubles. Al-Ubaidi and Bird (1964) also found two different growth factors in dried whey and fish solubles. Several other groups have demonstrated this response in purified diets (Carlson et al., 1949; Menge et al., 1952; Peterson et al., 1953 and Jones et al., 1954). Peterson et al.
