Abstract

A negative-ion model described in an accompanying paper has been used to study numerically the changes in negative-ion composition and electron concentrations at representative heights during a flare-like enhancement of ion pair production rate. The importance of photodetachment of electrons from major negative ions in these flare-like changes is examined. Particular attention is paid to the delay between the peak of production and the maximum electron and ion concentrations, and to the decrease of concentrations during the recovery following the flare.
