Abstract

In the past, many studies have explored the influencing factors and negative effects of materialist values, but there are few studies on whether the connection between man and nature will affect human materialist tendencies. This study uses questionnaires to investigate the impact of natural connection on college students' materialistic values, and examines the mediating role of negative emotions and pleasure pursuits. The study found:(1) Natural connection has a negative predictive effect on materialism.(2) Natural connection can negatively predict materialism through the mediating effect of negative emotions.(3) Natural connection can negatively predict materialism through the mediation effect of the pursuit of pleasure.(4) Natural connection can negatively predict materialism through the chain mediation of negative emotions and the pursuit of pleasure. Therefore, in the modern era of rapid economic development, enhancing the sense of connection with nature is an important way to interfere with the materialistic values of college students.
