Abstract

Additions of up to 0.7 wt pct Mn and 0.08 wt pct C have been studied with respect to their effect on the plastic anisotropy, grain size and ductility of cold rolled and annealed pure iron sheet. The effect of different levels of cold reduction is discussed and it is shown that maximum\(\bar r\) values occur after 85 pct reduction.\(\bar r\) values in excess of 2.0 can be produced when manganese levels in the range of 0.06 to 0.26 wt pct are used in conjunction with carbon contents of 0.046 to 0.012 wt pct. The relationship between grain size and cold reduction for different alloys is analyzed and it is shown that the uniform elongation is independent of grain size, composition and specimen thickness while the total elongation is a strong function of composition and is dependent on both grain size and specimen thickness.
